Random Thoughts

"Summertime and the living is easy.." I love the lazy days of Summer. Right now the Fort Lauderdale City Commission is on break. Upon their return on August 17 it will be time to tackle a few important issues such as the 2010-2011 budget, the process for selecting a new City Manager and important to me the revision of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.

Last month I blogged You Have Been Nuked concerning the abuse of the Sun-Sentinel political blog. Well, last night the Sun Sentinel though not directly, followed my advice to post a netiquette for a civil discussion. The following comment board guidelines has been posted:

"You share in the SunSentinel.com community, so we just ask that you keep things civil. Leave out the personal attacks. Do not use profanity, ethnic or racial slurs, or take shots at anyone's sexual orientation or religion. If you can't be nice, we reserve the right to remove your material and ban users who violate our Terms of Service."

Good for you Sun Sentinel. We can now hope that bloggers such as Robert Walsh, SFTU, Homo Agenda #15 and all the other haters will abide by these guidelines or face being nuked. Now let us also hope that the Sun Sentinel be true to their word and remove materials that are offensive and with further violations of their terms of service, ban those users as they did with Robert Walsh.

Tonight the Planning and Zoning Board will meet to finally vote on the Las Olas Presbyterian Church project. As I have a Budget Advisory Board meeting upstairs at the same time, I will be unable to attend. It is my hope that the P&Z Board rejects this massive project. In either way, I am sure the losing side will appeal the decision to the full City Commission where I felt it should have gone considering the whole convoluted way it has come to today.

Saturday, CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) will be holding their third annual preparation exercise. I will be there as a "volunteer victim" CERT is comprised of citizen volunteers that respond to various emergencies, including post hurricane support. I look forward to assisting this great group of citizens in their efforts.

Hope you have a safe and fun Summer.
