GIVE BACK IT DOESN'T HURT

So you don't like politics, that is understandable these days. You do love your city, and the Mayor has issued you, the citizens of Fort Lauderdale a challenge. Can you amass 100,00 hours of community service. This is an achievable goal.

Did you know that Fort Lauderdale has a Citizens Volunteer Corps (CVC). The CVC works with and for the community in many ways. We have painted park buildings, cleaned streets in various neighborhoods, planted trees and planters in parks and the Riverwalk. We have joined with local civic associations to march against crime. If you would like to receive notice of upcoming CVC projects, please contact Gina Ellis, Chairperson of the Citizens Volunteer Corps Genia Ellis ellisjazz@bellsouth.net

Each community has a local civic/homeowners association. These associations often hold community wide events. These events can be anything from flea markets, to bake sales, to street clean ups. Many times there is a neighbor in need but does not have the means to paint their house or clean up their yard. Perhaps you know a neighbor that just needs someone to visit with for a couple of hours each week.

Many of our parks have after school programs. Why not volunteer a couple of hours to help a child with their homework, or read a book. (a background check may be required). Perhaps you have a favorite charity. Contact them directly to see what volunteer needs they have. You may have a particular skill that is needed. Your house of worship always has volunteer opportunities. The possibilities are endless.
